The newly elected executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Savannah Region have appointed 10 additional officers to serve on the Regional Executive Committee, with Regional Chairman Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana, popularly known as Prof. Kalamonia, explaining that the appointments were made to ensure broader representation and inclusiveness across the region.
The appointments were announced on Thursday, August 27, 2026, exactly 11 days after the party’s regional conference, where new regional executives were elected.
According to the Savannah Regional Chairman, the party’s constitution mandates the appointment of additional officers to serve on the Regional Executive Board following the election of the substantive executives.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony for the appointed executives, Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana explained that the newly elected regional executives held consultations and agreed on how the 10 available appointed positions should be distributed across the various constituencies and tribal groupings within the region.
He said particular consideration was given to the minority tribes in the Savannah Region, noting that only two members of the elected Regional Executive Committee came from minority tribes.
“We all agreed that out of the 10 appointed positions, four should be given to the minority tribes in the region because, among the elected executives, only two are from the minority tribes,” he explained.
The chairman said the appointments were therefore structured to ensure that constituencies and groups that were not adequately represented through the elective positions were given opportunities to participate in the regional administration of the party.
He indicated that more than 18 applications were received for the various positions, after which the Regional Executive Committee scrutinized and deliberated on the applications.
According to him, while consensus was reached on some of the positions, others had to be decided through voting among the regional executives before the final list of appointees was approved.
The appointments cover the positions of PWD Coordinator, Deputy Nasara Organizer, Research Officer, Legal Officer, Financial Secretary, Deputy Women’s Organizer, Electoral Affairs Officer, Deputy Organizer, Deputy Youth Organizer and Special Duties Officer.
The appointed executives are:
- PWD Coordinator: Abdul-Malik Ken Addae — Bole-Bamboi
- Deputy Nasara Organizer: Alhaji Sulemana Mohammed — Yapei-Kusawgu
- Research Officer: Issahaku Majeed — Damongo
- Legal Officer: Abdul-Latif Bavug Esq. — Daboya-Mankarigu
- Financial Secretary: Solomon Boronsum — Sawla-Tuna-Kalba
- Deputy Women’s Organizer: Hajia Ubeida Nurudeen — Damongo
- Electoral Affairs Officer: Alhaji Ayattali Seidu — Yapei-Kusawgu
- Deputy Organizer: Abdulai Habib — Salaga South
- Deputy Youth Organizer: Kofi Yaka — Salaga North
10.Special Duties Officer: Abdul-Latif Yakubu Dawuda — Daboya-Mankarigu
Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana further explained the rationale behind some of the allocations, noting that efforts were made to spread the positions across the constituencies while also addressing the operational needs of the regional party.
He said the Deputy Women’s Organizer position was allocated to Damongo partly because the Savannah Regional Women’s Organizer is not from the regional capital, making it important to have a deputy based in Damongo to assist with certain responsibilities, including receiving guests and handling other party-related engagements.
The Regional Chairman urged the newly appointed executives to see their positions as an opportunity to serve the collective interest of the NPP rather than the interest of any individual within the party.
“I am appealing to all of you to serve diligently for the interest of the party and our flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The target now is victory in 2028, and none of you is here to serve me or any individual,” he stressed.
He reminded the appointees that the party remained supreme and called for unity, commitment and hard work towards securing victory for the NPP in the 2028 general elections.
The appointments, according to an earlier release signed by Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana, took immediate effect. The elected regional executives expressed confidence that the newly appointed officers would bring their experience, loyalty and dedication to bear in serving the party.
Meanwhile, after the swearing-in of the appointed executives, the newly elected and appointed executives, led by Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana, paid separate courtesy calls on the Damongowura, Seidu Kelly Braimah Boresa (I) and the Yagbonwura, Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I.
The executives used the visits to formally introduce themselves and seek the guidance and blessings of the two traditional leaders as they begin their mandate to steer the affairs of the NPP in the Savannah Region.
The Regional Chairman and his executives assured the traditional authorities of their commitment to serving the party while respecting and upholding the customs, traditions and values of the Savannah Region.
The traditional leaders, in turn, offered their blessings to the new executives, wished them success in their respective roles and assured them of the continued support of their palaces in their efforts to promote peace, unity and development in the region.
With the appointment and swearing-in of the additional officers, the NPP Savannah Regional Executive Committee is expected to work as a unified team as the party begins preparations and mobilisation efforts towards the 2028 general elections.
