MTN Ghana has donated GH¢20,000 to the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I on 28th August, 2026 as support for the celebration of 2026 Yagbon Damba Festival in the Savannah Region.
The donation included GH¢ 1,000 worth of airtime, 20 crates of bottled water and 20 crates of soft drinks to support the Yagbonwura in welcoming guests.

Mr. Matthew Abugbilla MTN Ghana’s Savannah Regional Manager after presenting the items said MTN Ghana recognises the significance of tradition and the Damba Festival to the people of Gonja. He explained that the items presented to the Yagbonwura were MTN Ghana’s way of supporting the traditional authority and contributing to the successful celebration of the festival. He said the company remains committed to supporting Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and traditions”

A sub chief from Tuluwe Chanpewura Dr. Abdullahi Issah Bakari who received the items on behalf of the Yagbonwura expressed his deepest appreciation to MTN Ghana for their continued support to the Yagbonwura and the Gonja people. He noted that MTN’s services have made communication easier, allowing people to stay connected with their loved ones even when they are far apart.
He further acknowledged MTN’s consistent support for the Yagbonwura during important occasions and activities, describing the company’s gesture as a demonstration of its commitment to the community.
Dr. Abdullahi Issah Chanpe Wura, highlighted the Yagbonwura’s commitment to peace and development, describing him as a peaceful chief and a peacemaker who continues to promote unity and development.
