The Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, Hon. Adam Mutawakilu Garlus, has once again demonstrated his commitment to empowering people and creating a lasting impact in the Damongo Constituency by donating 15 industrial sewing machines to an NDC women’s group known as the Lordina Ladies.
The donation, which took place at his residence in Damongo, brought smiles and excitement to members and beneficiaries of the group.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Mutawakilu expressed his gratitude to the group and recounted their long-standing relationship, which dates back to 2010 when he served as the District Chief Executive for the then West Gonja District.
According to him, the relationship was tested during some of the most challenging periods, particularly after the NDC lost the 2016 general elections and following his loss in the 2020 parliamentary election, which made him a former Member of Parliament.
“You never left me, even during the challenging times. You stood by me. We were ridiculed and mocked. Others betrayed us along the way and were moved by material things. However, your commitment to me, John Dramani Mahama, Lordina Mahama and the NDC is yielding results today, and you will enjoy the fruits of your loyalty,” he said.
Hon. Mutawakilu added that although he lost his bid twice to represent the people of Damongo in Parliament, the will of God had manifested through former President John Dramani Mahama, who appointed him as the Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited.
He said he would never be ungrateful to the Damongo NDC, particularly the Lordina Ladies, for their unwavering support and loyalty over the years.
The 15 industrial sewing machines were presented to members of the group who are seamstresses as part of the first consignment of support.
Hon. Mutawakilu disclosed that a second consignment would soon follow to support the remaining members of the group. He explained that the support would include working tools and equipment for members engaged in various trades, including hairdressing, weaving and dressmaking, as well as financial support to help members establish or expand their businesses.
He further indicated that some members of the group had already benefited from his efforts, noting that he had facilitated employment opportunities for some of them at Ghana Water Limited, the Ghana Education Service, the security services and other institutions.
He assured members that everyone who had remained committed—whether formally or informally educated, skilled in a trade or engaged in other forms of work—would have an opportunity to benefit.
The leadership and beneficiaries of the Lordina Ladies expressed their profound gratitude to Hon. Mutawakilu for standing by his promises and rewarding their loyalty.
According to them, they chose loyalty over everything else, believing that their commitment and sacrifices would one day yield positive results. They said they were therefore not surprised by his gesture.
The group offered prayers for Hon. Mutawakilu and expressed hope for more opportunities in the future. They also reaffirmed their continued loyalty and support for him, President John Dramani Mahama, First Lady Lordina Mahama and the NDC.
Touching on the Damongo Water Project, Hon. Mutawakilu hinted that plans were underway for compensation to be paid to affected persons, after which the contractor would move to the project site to commence work.I can also make it more like a strong radio/online news story, with a sharper intro and more compelling headline.
