A rift has emerged within the Savannah Regional executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after two conflicting lists of newly appointed regional officers surfaced, exposing disagreement over who should serve as Deputy Women Organiser.
The Savannah Regional Chairman of the NPP, Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana, popularly known as Professor Kalamonia, on Thursday, August 27, 2026, issued a press statement announcing appointments made under Article 9(2) of the party’s constitution, following consultations with relevant stakeholders. In that list, Hajia Ubeida Nurudeen was named Deputy Women Organiser for the region.
However, a separate press release, dated a day earlier and issued by the elected Regional Executives, named a different set of appointees to the same portfolio, with Alhassan Sahada listed as Deputy Women Organiser instead.
Sources close to the matter, gathered by Spear FM, indicate that the Regional Women Organiser, Madam Fatiya Mohammed, objected to working with Hajia Ubeida Nurudeen as her deputy and had proposed Madam Alhassan Sahada for the position.
Following the Regional Chairman’s publication of his list, Madam Fatiya is reported to have issued a counter-statement rejecting the Chairman’s list as fake, and insisting on her preferred nominee.
Both documents affirm the other appointments including the Financial Secretary, Deputy Nasara Organizer, Deputy Youth Organizer, Deputy Organizer, Research Officer, Electoral Affairs Officer, PWD Coordinator, Legal Officer, and Special Duties Officer positions with only the Deputy Women Organiser slot in dispute.
The disagreement comes at a time the party says it is positioning itself for victory in the 2028 general election, raising questions about internal cohesion within the Savannah Regional executive ahead of that push.
