Staff of the North-East Gonja District Assembly are currently working under trees due to the absence of a permanent office, the District Chief Executive has revealed.
Hon. Abdul Mumin Ewuntomah made the disclosure on Wednesday, April 8, when he appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to account for the Assembly’s operations.
The DCE said the Assembly, which has a staff strength of 126, is battling severe accommodation challenges that are taking a toll on productivity and service delivery.
“We have challenges with our office accommodation. Like some of my colleagues indicated, they are operating at Area Councils, exactly what we are also doing. Our office project has stalled, and we are working around to fix it. Currently, we are operating under trees, and because of that, productivity is very low,” Hon. Ewuntomah told the Committee.
He attributed the situation to stalled infrastructure, explaining that the district, described as the youngest and one of the least resourced in the Savannah Region is constrained by a persistently low Internally Generated Fund (IGF) base.
The DCE, however, assured the Committee that the Assembly has made budgetary provisions for 2026 and 2027 to mobilise the funds needed to complete the stalled office project.
He added that efforts are underway to broaden the district’s revenue base and restore normal working conditions for staff.
