The Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Major (Rtd) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, has donated 50 bags of rice, 15 cartons of cooking oil, several cartons of mackerel, and bags of sugar to the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-kunuto Jewu Soale I, ahead of this year’s Yagbon Damba festival.
The items were presented on behalf of the Director-General by the Savannah Regional Director of NADMO, Mr. Zakaria Mahama.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Gonja Kingdom, HRM Yagbonwura Bii-kunuto expressed gratitude to the NADMO Director-General for the kind gesture, describing it as a demonstration of goodwill towards the traditional authority and people of Gonjaland.
This year’s Yagbon Damba festival is scheduled to be celebrated from Thursday, 27th to Sunday, 30th August 2026, with a full programme of activities lined up across the four days.
Thursday, 27th August, will mark the arrival of guests and dignitaries. Friday, 28th August, will see the traditional picking of rice for the festival. On Saturday, 29th August, the Damba festival cow will be slaughtered in the morning, followed by the Damba dance which will run through the night until daybreak. The celebration will climax on Sunday, 30th August, with the grand durbar of chiefs, government officials, invited guests, and the people of Gonjaland.
