The New Patriotic Party in the Damongo Constituency and Savannah Regional Secretariat have held a joint press conference to demand the immediate arrest of a man they identified as Fuzzy accusing him of physically assaulting a young social media activist, Yussif Abdul-Hakim, from Daboya.
The attack, according to the NPP, took place on Saturday night when the suspect and masked accomplices travelled from Damongo to Tamale, located Abdul-Hakim’s residence, and assaulted him. The victim reportedly posted a video calling on the NDC government to be more responsive. A video the NPP says was not directed at the accused.
Abdul-Hakim has since received treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital and reported the incident to security agencies.
The party described the attack as part of a broader pattern of politically motivated violence, alleging the assailant previously uploaded footage of the incident on his own social media handle. They also accused him of earlier involvement in the raid and burning of the Damongo offices of the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
The NPP has expressed sharp disappointment at what it described as feet-dragging by the Savannah Regional Police Command, warning that continued inaction undermines public safety and the credibility of the police service.
”Ghana’s democracy cannot survive if political opponents are beaten into silence,” the statement read. The party called on the Ghana Police Service to investigate and prosecute those responsible, and urged NDC leadership to halt what it termed state-enabled thuggery.
