The North Gonja District Office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has formally requested fifty life jackets and fifty reflective jackets from the Savannah Regional Director in Damongo, to boost safety for residents who cross the river and to support the office’s operational activities.
In a letter dated August 10, 2026, and signed by the Acting District Director, Abdul-Rashid Yamusah, the District Office explained that the life jackets are needed to ensure the safety of community members who cross the river, while the reflective jackets are required for operational purposes.
The letter, addressed to the Regional Director of NADMO in Damongo, Savannah Region, appealed for consideration and swift approval of the request.
River crossings remain a major safety concern in parts of the Savannah Region, particularly during the rainy season when water levels rise, making the provision of life jackets a critical intervention for communities that depend on canoes and other means to cross the river.
