Damongo SHS Records Lowest Pass Rate in Savannah Region’s 2025 WASSCE

Damongo Senior High School (SHS) has recorded the lowest overall pass rate among all senior high schools in the Savannah Region in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), according to results released by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

The school posted a total pass rate of just 20.50%, with male candidates recording 21.40% and female candidates 24.30% — figures that place Damongo SHS significantly below the regional average of 66.93%.

The poor performance stands in sharp contrast to top-performing schools in the region, including St. Cyprian Minor Seminary, which recorded an impressive 97.30% pass rate, and Tuna SHST, which came in second with 85.50%. Bole SHS was the only other school to perform below the regional average, posting a total pass rate of 31.80%.

Notably, Damongo SHS performed below even the regional overall, with girls marginally outperforming boys a trend also observed across several schools in the region, where the girls’ regional average of 66.38% slightly trailed the boys’ average of 64.58%, contributing to a combined regional total pass rate of 66.93%.

The results have raised fresh concerns about the quality of education at the municipal capital’s biggest senior high school, which serves as a flagship institution for the West Gonja Municipality. Stakeholders, parents, and education authorities in the Savannah Region are yet to officially comment on the development, but calls are expected to grow for urgent intervention to address what many may describe as a troubling decline.
