The Ghana Health Service organized a Community Scorecard Assessment Initiative at the Central Gonja District Health Directorate in Buipe to strengthen the delivery of healthcare services at six (6) Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS). The programme brought together health professionals and community volunteers to build participants’ understanding of the initiative and promote collaborative efforts towards improving primary healthcare delivery.
Proceedings:
The programme commenced with presentations by facilitators chaired by Mr Solomon Boamah of the Policy Planning Monitoring and Evaluation Division of the Ghana Health Service who explained the concept, objectives and implementation of the Community Scorecard Assessment Initiative. Participants were taken through the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders in assessing the performance of CHPS compounds and the importance of community participation in improving healthcare service delivery.
As part of the training, community volunteers were divided into groups and assigned presentation exercises to assess their understanding of the topics discussed. Each group presented its findings, demonstrating its knowledge of the Community Scorecard Assessment process. Facilitators provided feedback, clarified misconceptions and reinforced key concepts to ensure participants fully understood the initiative.
An interactive question-and-answer session followed, during which participants sought clarification on issues relating to the implementation of the initiative. Health professionals and volunteers also shared their views, experiences and suggestions on improving healthcare services at CHPS compounds within their respective communities.
Conclusion
The programme successfully enhanced participants’ understanding of the Community Scorecard Assessment Initiative and strengthened collaboration among health professionals and community volunteers. The group presentations and interactive discussions demonstrated active participation and commitment by stakeholders. The knowledge gained is expected to support effective implementation of the initiative and contribute to improved accountability, community engagement and quality healthcare service delivery at CHPS compounds in the Central Gonja District.
Successful stories were also shared by volunteers from their respective communities. The initiative enlighten them on the need to use the NHIS, and their concerns being heard even from far. It has also helped them identify issues needed to be addressed and has enabled accountability from health professionals.
