Abease, Bono East Region — 6th August, 2026
The Abease Traditional Council has held its Second Ordinary Traditional Council Meeting for 2026, with a historic working visit by the President of the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs, His Royal Majesty Nana Owusu Sakyi III, Bassamanhene, and the official inauguration of a ten-member Abease Traditional Council Task Force.
The meeting, held at the Abease Traditional Council Hall, brought together members of the Council, Adikrofo, Queen Mothers, Tribal Heads, elected Assembly Members within the Abease Traditional Area, youth associations, key stakeholders and representatives of the District Security Council (DISEC).
The District Chief Executive for Pru West District and DISEC were represented by the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Sulemana Ali, together with other members of the District Security Council.
The occasion marked the first official working visit of the President of the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs to the Abease Traditional Council since his assumption of office, and was described by the Omanhene of Abease, His Royal Majesty Obrempong Kru Takyi II, as historic and significant for the Council.
In his welcome address, His Royal Majesty Obrempong Kru Takyi II, Omanhene/President of the Abease Traditional Council and Vice President of the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs, warmly welcomed Nana Owusu Sakyi III and his delegation to the traditional seat of the Abease Paramountcy.
He described the visit as a demonstration of the President’s commitment to strengthening the chieftaincy institution and promoting unity and development among Traditional Councils in the region.
The Omanhene noted that the newly inaugurated Task Force had been established to assist the Traditional Council in protecting Stool Lands, monitoring the activities of unauthorized herdsmen, promoting peace and security, gathering community intelligence and working closely with the Ghana Police Service and other recognized state security agencies.
He emphasized that the Task Force was not a vigilante group but a Community Watch group, and would operate strictly within the laws of Ghana.
His Majesty expressed appreciation to DISEC, the Ghana Police Service, the National Intelligence Bureau, the Ghana National Fire Service and other security agencies for their continued support in maintaining peace and security within the Traditional Area.
The Omanhene further informed the gathering that on 12th March, 2026, the Sunyani High Court affirmed the allodial title of the Abease Stool over lands within the Abease Traditional Area. He described the decision as an important development which provides greater certainty for land administration and investment in the Traditional Area.
His Majesty consequently extended an open invitation to investors, development partners, agribusinesses, mining companies, industrialists and entrepreneurs to invest in Abease. According to him, the Traditional Area is endowed with vast arable lands, natural resources and significant opportunities in agriculture, Agro-processing, commerce, tourism, housing and other productive sectors. He assured genuine investors of the readiness of the Traditional Council to work with them to create an enabling environment for investment and development.
The Omanhene also called for stronger collaboration between the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs, Pru West District Assembly, Government of Ghana, security agencies, development partners and the Abease Traditional Council to accelerate development in the area.
Addressing the gathering, His Royal Majesty Nana Owusu Sakyi III, Bassamanhene and President of the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs, disclosed that following the election of the new leadership of the Regional House of Chiefs, a number of activities had been earmarked, including visits to the various Traditional Councils within the Bono East Region.
He said the working visit to Abease formed part of these activities and expressed satisfaction with the effective working relationship he had established with his Vice President, the Omanhene of Abease, and members of the Regional House.
Nana Owusu Sakyi III recalled his previous visit to Abease in 2014, when the Traditional Area was experiencing serious chieftaincy challenges. He said the situation he witnessed during his current visit demonstrated that the people of Abease had embraced unity and peace. He stressed that “a Stool can be occupied by only one person,” and once a person legitimately occupies the Stool, all others must rally behind the occupant and support his leadership.
The Bassamanhene commended HRM Obrempong Kru Takyi II for what he described as clear and progressive leadership, noting that the transformation witnessed in Abease under his reign was remarkable.
He specifically cited the transformation of the Abease Palace, comparing its current state to what existed during his 2014 visit. He observed that the Palace had become one of the notable traditional Palaces in the Bono East Region and attributed the achievement largely to the peace and unity prevailing in the Traditional Area.
Nana Owusu Sakyi III therefore urged the people of Abease to continue to embrace peace, love and unity and encouraged them to bury their differences and resolve disagreements, particularly chieftaincy-related matters, promptly.
He expressed satisfaction with the presence of key stakeholders at the meeting and commended the Pru West District Assembly for its participation. He called for a stronger and more effective working relationship between the District Assembly and the Traditional Council for the benefit of the people.
The Dwan Manhene, Offuman Manhene and Toubodom Manhene, who were part of the delegation from the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs, took turns to interact with Nananom and other participants.
They commended the Chiefs and people of Abease for their cooperation, unity and peaceful nature and urged them to continue supporting the Omanhene to enable him to pursue further development initiatives for the Traditional Area.
The Registrar of the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs and the Principal Research Officer also took turns to educate members of the Abease Traditional Council and Nananom on the importance of the registration of chiefs. They highlighted the benefits of registration and the need for chiefs to comply with the relevant statutory requirements governing the chieftaincy institution.
Speaking on behalf of the District Chief Executive and DISEC, the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Sulemana Ali, thanked the Abease Traditional Council for inviting the District Security Council to the important occasion.
He explained that the core responsibilities of the security services include the enforcement of law and order, protection of lives and property and professional investigation of criminal activities. Mr. Ali emphasized the need for partnership and collaboration between Nananom, the District Assembly and the security agencies.
He noted that while traditional authorities exercise moral and cultural authority, matters involving criminality should be referred to the appropriate security agencies. He called for mutual respect between traditional authorities and state institutions to ensure that neither side interferes with the lawful functions of the other.
On the newly inaugurated Task Force, Mr. Ali cautioned members to remain focused on the mandate for which the Task Force was established and to operate within the rules outlined by the Omanhene.
He further disclosed that the District Police Commander would be encouraged to organize an orientation programme for members of the Task Force to familiarize them with the appropriate procedures, responsibilities and limitations of their work.
He assured Nananom of the readiness of the District Assembly and security agencies to collaborate with the Traditional Council and other stakeholders to maintain peace and security in the area.
Speaking on behalf of the ten-member Task Force, Nana Takyi Danso, Gyasewahene of the Abease Traditional Area, expressed appreciation to the Omanhene and Nananom for the confidence reposed in the members. He assured the Council and the people of Abease that the Task Force would operate strictly within the laws of Ghana and would not take the law into its own hands.
He said whenever an issue arose beyond the mandate of the Task Force, members would promptly bring it to the attention of the Omanhene and the elders as well as the appropriate security agencies for the necessary action.
Members of the ten-member Task Force are expected to be provided with official identification cards to facilitate their identification while undertaking their assigned duties.
The Second Ordinary Traditional Council Meeting ended with a renewed call for peace, unity, collaboration and development, with stakeholders expressing their commitment to working together to advance the interests of the Abease Traditional Area.
