The Ghana Water Limited (GWCL) on Thursday, 23rd July, 2026, held an institutional stakeholders’ engagement workshop at the Kasha Restaurant Conference Hall in Damongo, as part of efforts to build a common understanding among the public on the Damongo Water Project.
The event was graced by the Municipal Chief Executive for West Gonja, Hon. Yakubu Yussif Castro, alongside government officials, security personnel, women’s groups, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and other invited dignitaries.
The engagement forms part of the mandatory guidelines process for the project and was aimed at sensitizing the public to appreciate the scope, benefits, and requirements of the initiative.
Giving the opening remarks, the Northern Regional Chief Manager of the Ghana Water Limited, Mr. Rashid Braimah Soale, described the project as a “lifeline project” rather than a mere infrastructure project. He disclosed that upon completion, the project will deliver approximately 135 cubic metres, or 30 million gallons, of water daily, a volume he said would be sufficient to supply all communities along its route.
Mr. Soale, however, noted that projects of this magnitude often come with challenges such as compensation issues, disruptions, and heightened public expectations. He therefore appealed to stakeholders, particularly Assembly members, community leaders, and chiefs, to rally support behind the Ghana Water Company to ensure the success of the project.
During the workshop, participants were taken through the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP), which outlined details on land acquisition, eligibility, and compensation processes. The session ended on a participatory note, with attendees engaging facilitators through a lively question-and-answer segment.
