MTN Ghana Advice Customers Against Surge in Online Scams

Mobile telecommunications giant MTN Ghana has issued an urgent scam alert, cautioning its customers to be vigilant against phishing attacks and fraudulent messages circulating on digital platforms.

The company, in a statement released on Monday, May 11, 2026, said scammers are increasingly impersonating trusted institutions including banks, government agencies, and well-known companies to trick unsuspecting users into divulging personal information.

MTN Ghana says the fraudsters typically reach their targets through WhatsApp messages, SMS, and deceptive websites, using tactics such as fake prize announcements, urgent account verification requests, and alarming notifications designed to pressure recipients into acting without thinking.

The telecom giant has urged customers to avoid clicking on links from unknown sources, to treat any message that promises prizes or demands immediate action with extreme suspicion, and to always verify that websites are secure by checking for the “https” prefix and a padlock symbol in the browser address bar.

MTN Ghana has also stressed that the company will under no circumstances request a customer’s password, PIN, or credit card details through a text link or social media message. Any such request, the company says, is a red flag of a scam.

Customers who suspect they have received a fraudulent message or believe their accounts may have been compromised are advised to call MTN’s customer support line on 100 or report the matter to the police on 0800311311.
