A young woman from Bole in the Savannah Region of Ghana has been adjudged the Most Influential Student of the Year at the 2026 National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) Excellence Awards, organised by the Local NUGS chapter of the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS).
Forgor Charity Alelematu, a Level 300 Law student at UBIDS, clinched the prestigious title, capping a remarkable academic and leadership journey that began in her early school years.
A product of the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana Basic School, Alelematu stands as one of the pioneers of the institution, where she made history as the first-ever Assistant Girls Prefect, a feat she replicated at the Cocoa Research Junior High School. Her confidence and boldness also saw her consistently lead her school during Independence Day celebrations, with her school recording victories on each occasion. She crowned her basic education with a distinction in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
She proceeded to St. Francis of Assisi Girls Senior High School, where her hard work, dedication and humility earned her the role of Sports Representative for her class. She again excelled academically, obtaining a distinction in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Beyond the classroom, Alelematu has demonstrated a flair for community and campus life. In 2025, she emerged as Second Runner-Up at the Miss Pax beauty pageant, a well-known competition within her institution and beyond. She also serves as Welfare Secretary of the Pax Choir at UBIDS.
Receiving the Most Influential Student of the Year award, Alelematu described her journey as one driven by vision, purpose and a passion to inspire others.
“True success and achievement is not just about passing through chapters but making the best out of each chapter,” she said, adding that her ambition is to motivate the younger generation to believe in their potential.
The NUGS Excellence Awards is organised under the auspices of the UBIDS Student Representative Council (SRC) and celebrates students who demonstrate excellence in academics, leadership and social influence.
