Damongo Farmer Sets the Pace, Donates Two Bags of Cement for Presby School Renovation

A renewed wave of community support has emerged to address the deteriorated state of the Damongo Presbyterian Junior High School (JHS) Block A classroom block, following a generous donation by a local farmer, Mr. Sakara Bamutu Prempeh.

Mr. Sakara, a farmer based in Damongo, donated two bags of cement to the school to support ongoing efforts to renovate the unsafe classroom block. According to him, education remains the most valuable legacy for future generations, and he could not remain indifferent after learning about the alarming condition of the school building through Spear FM.

He explained that the state of the classroom block is not only discouraging academic work but also poses a serious threat to the lives of pupils and teachers. He therefore appealed to authorities and community members not to ignore the situation until a disaster occurs. “We should not wait until lives are lost before action is taken. Life is precious, especially the lives of our school children,” Mr. Sakara emphasized, urging all stakeholders to support the renovation appeal being championed by Spear FM.

Reacting to the donation, the Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Inusah Karim, described the gesture by Mr. Sakara Bamutu Prempeh as timely, patriotic, and deeply inspiring. He noted that the donation, though modest, sends a strong message about collective responsibility and the role individuals can play in safeguarding the future of children through education.

Hon. Inusah Karim reiterated that the condition of Damongo Presby JHS Block A remains a serious concern, stressing that the structure is unsafe and does not meet the minimum standards required for effective teaching and learning. He explained that pupils and teachers continue to face daily risks, especially during bad weather, which has heightened fear among learners and affected attendance.

According to him, the intervention by Mr. Sakara should serve as a wake-up call to all stakeholders, including the West Gonja Municipal Assembly, corporate bodies, old students, NGOs, and well-meaning individuals, to come together and provide lasting solutions to the problem.

“This is not about politics or personalities; it is about the safety and future of our children,” Hon. Inusah stated. “When one person is able to step forward, it shows that together we can do even more.”

He further commended Spear FM for its consistent advocacy, noting that the station’s efforts have helped bring the issue to the forefront and mobilize community support. He assured residents that he will continue to use all available platforms to push for the rehabilitation of the school block until a permanent solution is achieved.

The donation was received on behalf of the headteacher and the School Management Board by the Assistant Headmaster of Damongo Presbyterian JHS Block B, Mr. Yakubu Ali. He expressed profound gratitude to Mr. Sakara for what he described as a kind and life-saving gesture, and also acknowledged the Assembly Member, Hon. Inusah Karim, for consistently advocating for the school, as well as Spear FM for championing the cause.

Mr. Yakubu revealed that the poor condition of the classroom block has severely affected teaching and learning, explaining that many pupils are demoralized and some even stay away from school due to fear for their safety. “Some of the pupils are genuinely afraid for their lives. They run away from school because they fear the building may collapse on them,” he said.

He concluded by appealing to government authorities, philanthropists, faith-based organizations, NGOs, and the general public to come to the aid of the school to help restore a safe, decent, and conducive learning environment.

The latest development has renewed hope within the Damongo community, as residents rally behind the call to protect education and prevent avoidable tragedy at Damongo Presby JHS Block A.
