Sir Martin’s Memorial School in Damongo has held its 8th Graduation and Matriculation Ceremony, celebrating the academic achievements, personal growth and talents of its pupils while welcoming new students into the next stage of their educational journey.
The colourful ceremony, held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the premises of Sir Martin’s Memorial School in Damongo, brought together the school’s management, teachers, parents, guardians, pupils, students and other invited guests.
The occasion provided an opportunity for the school community to celebrate pupils who had successfully completed various stages of their education, recognise outstanding academic performance and officially welcome students beginning new chapters at the school.

The ceremony was marked by speeches, presentations, academic recognition and a variety of entertaining performances, including choral music, choreography and poetry recitals by the pupils and students.
Addressing the gathering, the Proprietress of Sir Martin’s Memorial School, Miss Joana Wuriya Ewuntomah, described the ceremony as a special occasion for celebrating growth, progress and new beginnings.

She congratulated the graduating pupils and reminded them that graduation does not signify the end of their educational journey, but rather the completion of one stage and the beginning of another.
She encouraged the graduates to embrace their next level of education with hard work, discipline, respect and a willingness to learn.
Miss Ewuntomah noted that as pupils progress into higher classes, greater responsibilities and expectations come with them.
She therefore urged them to take their studies seriously, respect their teachers and parents, ask questions and remain committed to improving themselves.
She also extended a warm welcome to the students being matriculated into the school, encouraging them to settle into their new environment, build positive friendships and take advantage of the opportunities available to them.
According to the Proprietress, education at Sir Martin’s Memorial School goes beyond academic performance and examination results.
She said the school is equally committed to developing good character, confidence, discipline and a sense of responsibility among its pupils and students.
Miss Ewuntomah highlighted the school’s motto, “Learning by Doing,” saying it reflects the belief that children learn effectively when they are given opportunities to participate, practise and discover things for themselves.
She expressed appreciation to parents and guardians for the confidence they continue to place in the school, stressing that the education and development of children is a shared responsibility between parents and schools.
She also commended the teachers and staff for their patience, dedication and commitment to nurturing the pupils.

Chairman of the ceremony and Chief Executive Officer of Eco Club House, Mr. Martin Yelibora, also used the occasion to encourage schools, teachers and parents to place greater emphasis on practical learning and life skills.
Mr. Yelibora said education should go beyond classroom instruction, examinations and memorisation, arguing that children must also acquire practical knowledge and skills that can help them navigate everyday life.
He questioned how much practical knowledge children are being exposed to in areas such as waste segregation, biodegradable materials, farming and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.
He said exposing children to practical experiences could help them understand their environment better, develop problem-solving abilities and prepare for the changing demands of the future.

Mr. Yelibora urged parents and teachers to create opportunities for children to learn through participation and experience.
“Let us teach them life skills. Let the school pass through them and let them pass through the school,” he said.
He further expressed his willingness to support schools with practical training initiatives, particularly through opportunities for students to experience appropriate workplaces, equipment and practical environments.

Kasha Zaidat Ibrahim emerged as the Best Graduating Student from the Basic Level, successfully completing Basic Six and progressing to Junior High School One (JHS 1).

At the kindergarten level, Enock Kwabena Abban was adjudged the Best Graduating Student and will move from Kindergarten to Grade One.

Their achievements were celebrated by the school community as examples of the academic progress and commitment of pupils at Sir Martin’s Memorial School.
The recognition also underscored the school’s commitment to encouraging pupils to strive for excellence at every stage of their education.

The ceremony was also characterised by impressive performances from the school’s pupils and students.
The school choir delivered a choral performance that entertained guests, while students also showcased their creativity through choreography and poetry recitals.
The performances added colour and excitement to the graduation ceremony and provided the children with an opportunity to demonstrate their talents, creativity and confidence before parents, teachers and invited guests.
Beyond the academic recognition, the performances reinforced the importance of giving children opportunities to develop their abilities outside the traditional classroom setting.

The 8th Graduation and Matriculation Ceremony of Sir Martin’s Memorial School therefore served as a significant milestone for the school community.
For the graduating pupils, Wednesday, September 16, 2026, marked the completion of one important stage and the beginning of another. For the newly matriculated students, it marked the start of a new chapter filled with opportunities for learning and growth.
The ceremony brought together achievement, learning, creativity and celebration, while reaffirming the shared responsibility of the school, parents and the wider community in preparing children for the future.
As the school looks ahead, the achievements stand as a reflection of the efforts of the pupils, teachers, parents and school authorities who continue to contribute to the educational development of the children.
