The Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has donated anti-snake venom to the Damongo Town Clinic to support the treatment of snakebite victims in the constituency.
The donation was made on behalf of the MP by the NPP Communications Officer for the Damongo Constituency, Iddi Adams Osman.
Speaking during the presentation, the Damongo Constituency NPP Communications Director Iddi Adams Osman said the donation was necessary, particularly during the rainy season, when overgrown grasses and bushes provide a conducive habitat for snakes, increasing the risk of snakebite incidents.
“It’s about snake venom which our MP, Samuel Abu Jinapor bought for us as Damongo constituents. We all know that we are in rainy season and a lot of people are going to the farm. There are bushes around us and also, the home for many snakes and other animals. This is their season and there is nothing we can do so our MP saw the need to help. We are in difficult times and if there should be any snake bite, it wouldn’t be easy, it will be difficult to buy the venom”.
He noted that the donation is not a one-off initiative, explaining that the MP has consistently supported health facilities with anti-snake venom. According to him, this year’s donation marks the second time the MP has provided the lifesaving medication.
Mr. Osman further revealed that residents from nearby communities have already benefited from the initiative, mentioning a resident from Sumpini, a nearby village, as one of those who has received treatment through the donated anti-snake venom.
He emphasized that the medication is intended to serve everyone in the constituency, regardless of their political affiliation, and urged health workers to make it available to anyone who needs it.
“This isn’t his first time. He does this often and this year alone, it’s his second time. One of this venom is sold at gh700. A native of Sumpini has already benefited from his donation. Imagine if this was not available, he would have been spending close to ghc 1,400. We are pleading with the good people of Damongo that this venoms are available for all regardless of your party affiliation “.
