The Constituency Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Sawla-Tuna-Kalba has come out strongly against any attempt to exclude persons of the Brifor/Lobi community from participating in electoral contests within the party.
This follows a meeting of the Committee held on Monday, 14th September 2026, where members deliberated extensively on reports suggesting that some persons had intentions of preventing members of the Brifor/Lobi community from taking part in electoral processes within the constituency.
In a statement signed by the Constituency Secretary, Osman Abdalla, on behalf of the Constituency Chairman, the Committee unanimously resolved to reject any act that seeks to prevent, intimidate, threaten or interfere with the political participation of any person on the basis of ethnicity, tribal identity or community of origin.
The statement clarified that the resolution does not attribute the reported concerns to any particular ethnic group, stressing that the NDC respects all communities within Sawla-Tuna-Kalba and remains committed to equal participation, dignity and peaceful coexistence.
The Committee also took a firm stance against reports suggesting that conduct associated with the internal electoral processes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) may be contemplated for replication within the NDC, describing such conduct as having no place in the party. It insisted that the NDC’s internal elections must be conducted strictly in accordance with the Party Constitution and the principles of fairness and inclusion.
The party further cautioned all its members, particularly the youth, against participating in or supporting any act of intimidation, threat, violence, ethnic incitement or disruption of the party’s electoral processes, warning that offenders will face disciplinary action under the party’s governing instruments, in addition to possible legal consequences under the laws of Ghana.
Members who encounter threats or inflammatory statements have been directed not to retaliate, but to report such matters promptly to Constituency or Regional Party leadership, and to alert security authorities in cases involving immediate threats to life or property.
Touching on the need to protect peace and unity, the Committee acknowledged the sensitivities that have existed among sections of the communities in the constituency, particularly in the aftermath of the Gbeniyiri conflict, and pledged to work with traditional authorities, community stakeholders and security institutions to prevent any escalation of tension.
The NDC Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency has called on all its members, especially the youth, to exercise restraint, reject provocation and protect the peace of the constituency ahead of the party’s internal elections.
